East Anglia in the Snow
21st December 2009
This weekend has been eventful. I took a look at the weather which indicated snow in East Anglia, and decided that a trip down into that beautiful area had good potential for some unusual shots.
I decided it was not the best idea to go somewhere new, and chose to return to Herringfleet Marsh where I knew the ground, knew the roads in and out.
Setting off at 4:00am from Yorkshire I wasn't confident of actually getting to Herringfleet. I thought I'd see how far I could get in the very icy conditions. The motorways were clear, but the conditions on the A roads was not too good. I joined a small convoy of 3 trucks and a couple of cars and slowly headed deeper into Norfolk. No real problems, just steady progress. Approaching Herringfleet I knew the roads were reasonably flat, but had a hard packed base of snow and ice. More careful driving I arrived at 07:45.
A quick run down onto the marsh and out towards the mill, the sky was overcast with just a couple of breaks. I managed to get a couple of shots off around dawn just as the sun peeped through. Then I sat in the small shed until 10:30am for the sky to clear and shot off another set of images.
I've loaded the best of the bunch into the 'New Work' gallery, a shot of Herringfleet Mill taken through the reeds and across the frozen dyke. I'm quite pleased with the result and well worth the adventure.
