AFIAP Submission

16th November 2009
I've just received a note from Ian Platt acknowledging receipt of my AFIAP submission. FIAP recently changed the rules governing the criteria for gaining the AFIAP award, previously for some rediculous reason they required the process to take five years. I've had enough acceptances, awards and met all the criteria for almost two years and was sitting out the next 3 years to allow me to submit. It might seam strange to say I was sitting it out, but the previous rules meant that any work used prior to the AFIAP award couldn't be used towards the EFIAP (Excellence). The strategy was to 'keep the powder dry' until my 5 years were up. I have a good stock of unused images ;-)

But, good news! FIAP have amended the rules. No longer do we wait for 5 long years:

*AFIAP* - Waiting period has been reduced to 12 months after receipt of first acceptance in an approved salon and requires at least 30 acceptances from 10 different works in 10 different * salons in 5 different countries. PAGB have added the requirement for at least one award. * different salons = salons with different names, not merely different years of the same salon.

Which all means my submission can go in now. I have 59 acceptances from 25 different works in 10 different countries and 14 different salons, with two FIAP Honourable Mentions.

My submission will be send to FIAP in February and hopefully I should hear back some time in March, As part of the submission I sent a portfoilio of 10 images:

Morning Jog
St Michael's Mount
1642
Memories
Northumbrian Dawn
Rip Tide
Slower Pace of Life
Sherwood Walk
Ladies in Waiting
Island Ferry

So now I'm back on the active competition trail. Next target is the EFIAP:

*EFIAP* - Can be applied for not sooner than one year after the AFIAP, and requires at least a total (including AFIAP) of 150 acceptances with 50 different works in 30 different * salons in 15 different countries. PAGB have added the requirement for at least 5 awards (including AFIAP awards). See above regarding different salons.

Giving me a current target of another 25 images accepted in another 16 salons, in five more countries. The hard part will be getting the remaining 3 FIAP awards.
